Topography: 3D Mapping
Generating high-resolution orthomosaics and digital surface models for precision land management.
The Digital Twin Framework
Creating a precise digital twin of an agricultural site requires rigorous photogrammetry. Drones capture overlapping images—typically at 70-80% front and side overlap—to ensure photogrammetry software can successfully stitch thousands of images into a unified orthomosaic map.
Through Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning, each image is geotagged with sub-centimeter accuracy, negating the need for labor-intensive Ground Control Points (GCPs).
Digital Surface Models (DSM) & Drainage
Beyond 2D visuals, topographical mapping calculates elevation geometry. A Digital Surface Model (DSM) visualizes the canopy height and terrain gradient. This spatial data is critical for:
- Identifying field pooling and drainage inefficiencies.
- Optimizing irrigation pipe layouts and terraforming.
- Calculating precise volume metrics for earthworks.
| Mapping Resolution | Flight Altitude (AGL) | Ground Sample Distance (GSD) | Processing Time / 100ha |
|---|---|---|---|
| High Detail (RGB) | 50m | 1.2 cm/pixel | 4 hours |
| Standard Survey | 100m | 2.5 cm/pixel | 1.5 hours |
| Rapid Recon | 120m | 3.2 cm/pixel | 45 mins |
Integration with Farm Management Systems
Once processed, shapefiles (.shp) and GeoTIFFs are exported directly into tractor terminal software. This establishes a closed-loop system where aerial mapping dictates the physical route of ground machinery, creating a seamless data flow from the sky to the soil.
